The Billing Assistant will provide essential administrative and billing support to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant billing processes. This position includes performing insurance Verifications of Benefits (VOBs), processing client copays, assisting with insurance credentialing, and providing general billing and administrative support to the practice.


The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and experienced in working with insurance providers, particularly within a behavioral health setting. This is a permanent, part-time role that offers stability, flexibility, and the opportunity to grow within our billing team.

Salary Range: $20-22/hour (W2)

Billing Assistant (Part-Time) Job Description


Essential Functions

  • Conduct insurance Verifications of Benefits (VOBs) for new and existing clients.
  • Process and reconcile client copays and payments accurately.
  • Support ongoing insurance billing operations, including data entry and claim review.
  • Assist with insurance credentialing for new clinicians and maintenance of provider enrollments.
  • Communicate with insurance companies to confirm coverage, follow up on claims, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic health record (EHR) and billing systems.
  • Collaborate with the administrative and billing teams to ensure smooth workflow and timely resolution of billing issues.
  • Uphold all HIPAA privacy and security standards.

Work Environment


This job operates in a remote, clerical environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and online communication platforms.


Physical Demands


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently uses hands to operate computers and phones. The position may require occasional lifting of office products or supplies up to 20 pounds.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position, approximately 15–25 hours per week, depending on workflow.

Work must be performed during regular business hours (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time) to contact insurance providers and coordinate with staff. This shift can be broken up into 5 four hour days, or four 5 hour days (Must work Mondays).

Travel

This position does not require travel.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Prior experience verifying insurance benefits, preferably in a behavioral health or medical billing setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of insurance terminology and benefit verification procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with technology, including EHR systems and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a remote environment.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Previous experience working in behavioral health billing or administrative support.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and electronic records management.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Employee must be authorized to work in the United States.
