Description:
The Product Development Specialist supports the development and maintenance of AAIS insurance products by providing day-to-day support within an assigned product line. This role assists in gathering, analyzing, documenting, and developing product materials including forms, manuals, rating structures, and rules in compliance with state-specific insurance departments. This position works closely with the product development team and other departments such as Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, and Technology to ensure product materials are accurate, up-to-date, and meet regulatory expectations.
This position will support AAIS’s Auto Line programs and is ideal for individuals in the insurance or product development space who are interested in learning the technical, regulatory, and strategic aspects of insurance product design.

Responsibilities
- Assist with research on competitor products, market trends, and regulatory updates to help identify opportunities or needed changes to AAIS product lines.
- Support the drafting and revision of rating structures, manual rules, and state-specific exceptions under guidance from senior staff.
- Support preparation of responses to regulatory questions or objections, with oversight from more experienced team members.
- Monitor project timelines and update internal trackers and reports to keep project leads informed.
- Coordinate with internal teams and stakeholders to support product development tasks and documentation.
- Participate in team discussions about product strategy and development processes to build subject-matter knowledge.
- Assist with preparation of materials for external training sessions or customer presentations.
- Review and proofread product materials for clarity and accuracy.
- Develop a working understanding of AAIS manuals and become familiar with tools and processes used in manual maintenance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of insurance principles and product development processes.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel).
- Willingness to learn from feedback and collaborate across departments.
- Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks under guidance.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively across multiple channels and asynchronously in a remote-first working environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of relevant work experience, ideally in insurance, product development, or regulatory/compliance roles.
- Professional insurance designations (CPCU, AINS, CPM, etc.) desired.
- Minimum travel is required for annual all-company gatherings or team design sessions (up to 5% of the time)
